Video: How To Choose The Right Shade Of Beeswax Polish For Your Wooden Furniture

polishing with beeswax starter kit

Everything you need to start polishing your furniture like a professional with the best beeswax polish:

  • 'pure gold' for use on light coloured woods such as Ash, Beech, Maple, Light Oak and Pine
  • 'rose gold' specially formulated for use on Rosewood, Teak, Light Mahogany, Cherry, and Honey Oak furniture, G-Plan, Nathan, Mcintosh and all Mid Century Teak furniture or similar coloured woods.
  • 'antique gold' for use on dark coloured woods such as Antique Oak, Mahogany, Walnut, and Elm
  • Our antique restorers' recommended ultra-soft '0000'-grade oil-free wire wool that cleans the surface as it applies the wax polish
  • Our antique restorers' recommended open-weave 100% cotton polishing cloth for easier buffing without streaks
  • A complimentary box of sweet pea seeds for you to plant and grow as a special 'Thank You' to the hard-working bees  **unfortunately this offer excludes USA due to FDA regulations

Perfect if you have one prize piece of wooden furniture or have two or three pieces of different types of wood. We have ensured there is enough in each tin to cover a single piece of furniture (depending on the absorption rate of the wood) such as dining table, gate-leg table, bureau, chest of drawers, or four to six dining chairs.

Ideal for anyone who would like to polish a single piece of furniture but may be unsure which shade to buy.

If you would like to try your hand at beeswax polishing using the products professional restorers use, this kit is a great starting point.

Our beeswax furniture polish is made in the UK from the highest quality natural waxes we can source and is specially formulated to bring old furniture back to life:

  • The best triple-filtered beeswax, organically farmed and humanely harvested by the world renowned beekeepers at Buckfast Abbey
  • The finest natural T1-grade carnauba wax for longer lasting protection
  • The finest natural myrica, Japan and berry waxes we can source
  • Blended with nothing but pure pine gum spirits of turpentine in the traditional way
  • No white (mineral) spirits, No toluene, No aggressive petrochemical solvents and definitely NO SILICONE

Environmental preservation is very important to us and we make every effort to ensure our products have a minimal impact on the environment:
  • We are not driven by a corporate cost-reduction ethos. We select our components based on quality and sustainability rather than the cheapest alternatives
  • 100% Plastic-free recyclable packaging
    • Recycled cardboard and paper from FSC-approved mixed sources
    • Packing tape that is paper & cotton based with a water-based gum adhesive which can be recycled along with the cardboard boxes
    • No polypropylene-based tape. We use biodegradable raffia twine.
  • No petrochemical solvents, we use only pure pine gum spirits of turpentine
  • Our workshop roof is completely covered in solar panels and generates far more electricity than we consume

  1. For best results use our ultra-soft 0000-grade oil-free wire wool to apply the polish
  2. With gentle pressure spread the polish evenly over the surface in the direction of the grain, being careful not to over apply and avoid any upholstered areas. Once applied the surface area should look matt in appearance
  3. Allow the pure pine turpentine to completely evaporate and the wax to harden (15-20 minutes in temperate climates)
  4. Use our open-weave pure cotton buffing cloth to buff the wax with ease and without leaving streaks

Weekly furniture maintenance of removing dust can be done by simply using a slightly damp cloth and drying if needed with a clean dry cloth - beeswax polish will protect the surface for a very long time.

If you have a larger surface like the side of a chest of drawers or the top of a dining table apply the beeswax more evenly by dabbing the surface all over with small amounts of polish, then wipe in the direction of the grain to spread the wax evenly.

For carved relief areas such as an antique coffer, you can also apply beeswax furniture polish with a cheap 1 inch trimmed paint brush. It makes applying the beeswax much easier and allows the polish to get right into those dusty and hard to reach areas. Buff it when completely dry with a soft shoe brush and buffing cloth.

Great product

Fantastic product with a brilliant personal touch! Our ercol table looks absolutely superb! Cheers Gilboys

Great product, great result!

After inheriting a few family pieces that needed a lot of TLC and finding Simon's super helpful videos on YouTube I ordered a starter kit to get me going. It's great. It arrived quickly, beautifully packaged and the wax has done a brilliant job bringing the shine and the memories back.

fantastic product

Amazing quality wax, lovingly packaged…my grandmother’s bedside table is back to former splendour after 20 years in a dusty dry attic!

I applied the wax to an oak table, the extra leaves, which are rarely used had faded over the years so I applied pure gold to the top of the table and antique gold to the extension leaves, WOW, the result is amazing, now they virtually match. Delighted with the results. Only drawback is we seem to be getting a lot of honey bees coming in to investigate the table.... Good job we like bees.

Ercol Restoration.

Many thanks for your e-mail following up my purchase of your Furniture Polishing Starter Kit.

I am absolutely delighted with it !

Recently I inherited an Ercol dining table and 4 chairs together with a rocking chair.

The Dining Set was 'blond' Ercol and I have now completed restoring this.

I followed your advice in the You Tube video you produced and I am now a subscriber !

You will see that I have attached some photos of the restored table and chairs.

The darkly stained rocking chair is a work in progress, but I have attached a 'before' photo for you.

When it's completed I will let you have the 'after' photo !

I admire and fully support your 'eco and sustainability' principles and your products are excellent. I shall be ordering some more !

The bonus is that restoring pieces of furniture is a hobby that my dear wife supports !

Kind regards,

Stephen Badcock.

Amazing results

Gilboy's is an amazing product. Easy to use and fabulous results; I applied to a dried out oak table which belonged to a friend. She thought she would have to completely sand and refinish it. She was amazed at the results and it took me less than 45 min. Just a bit of polish and some effort and viola! Looks fabulous

Even the Bees Like It

I had to add a picture with the Bee. I think it is a good advert for the product. 😉

I was doing two used bedside tables. I striped them and neutralized and sand them. I don't think I had to, as there were only a little something which come off and The product will due the work even without this effort, but I wanted to try the metod shown in one of your YT videos. It was hards work with all sanding uncomfortable corners, but puting beeswax was the best and satisfying and easy. Only wish to known if there exist any easy methods to recover the circle marks on the top after mug or something and discoloration in wood after hinges. The smell of the beeswax is pleasant and furnitures looks so refreshed. I will definitely use it for my future projects.

Lovely product

I’m renovating 6 dining chairs for a friend. The chairs have a worn and chipped cellulose finish. The Rose Gold has really brought out the wood colour and helped hide the worn patches. I have applied 3 coats to the worst areas. Thrilled with the result.

Highly recommended

Delivery was very prompt and packaged beautifully. Lovely touch of a personalised handwritten note. Great little starter kit and just what we needed to bring life to our oak table, and we have waxes to use on other pieces. We'll worth the price. Thank you x

Gilboy's Starter Pack

My order arrived quickly and I was, and still am, very impressed with the beautiful packaging - and absolutely all of it environmentally friendly. I have yet to use the waxes but thank you for the great experience so far...
