This wood buffing brush is composed of solid beech and features natural plant based tampico fillings. Tampico, also known as Mexican fibre, is harvested from the lechuguilla plant native to semi-desert areas of Mexico. This versatile fiber can resist temperatures up to 140°C, as well as acids and caustic soda, and its fineness makes it ideal for polishing.
Having been utilised for numerous years in the workshop, our drill-powered buffing brush can considerably reduce time and effort when operated correctly. Popularised as ‘pine drill brushes’ during the Victorian era when furniture was stripped to the bare wood and wax polished, these brushes have been meticulously crafted and wax polished using Gilboys' (clear) pure gold beeswax by our workshop specialists.

How To Use A Drill Buffing Brush
- After you have applied Gilboys wax polish and waited 20 to 30 minutes, insert the spindle of the drill brush into the drill chuck and tighten securely.
- At an angle, offer the brush to the surface spinning at a medium speed.
- Continually move the spinning drill brush over the waxed surface to ensure all areas are buffed evenly. This method will prevent the spinning brush head from overheating and melting the applied wax on the surface.
- Finish off the newly ‘drill buffed’ surface by hand buffing with our open weave, pure cotton buffing cloth.
Where To Use And When Not To Use A Drill Buffing Brush
- Drill brushes are most effective when used to buff carved woodwork. It is a much more effective way of buffing a carved relief surface when compared to just using a cotton cloth. It will also help to remove any excess areas of wax polish caught in the carvings and recesses. It will also save you a lot of time. I would expect a drill buffed coffer would save about a quarter of the time when compared to hand buffing.
- Do not use a wax drill brush on smooth, flat horizontal surfaces such as dining tables, side tables, chests etc. It will more than likely result in striping of the wax on the surface, leaving an uneven finish.
- You can use it to buff table frames and chairs but I would always advise that you finish off the buffing with a cotton cloth.

Have not used brush yet but the wax has made cat scratches on my railings disappear
Loved using this with the Gilboys polish. As you can see from the photo, I have a very intricately carved piece of furniture which was problematic to polish. The door on the left is finished, the middle one not yet. The polisher is easy to attach to my home drill; very powerful on full , but got used to being less trigger happy! Would love one for flat table tops.
I use this brush and your wax on an antique carved rocker Beautiful resiults. Quality like this is difficult to find these days.

Wonderful gadget and takes some of the elbow grease out of buffing after using the fabulous Gilboys’ waxes.
Certainly a faster less laborious way of removing the wax, however a final polish by hand is necessary to achieve the best results..
Fantastic products! I find Gilboy's furniture polish easy to use and with great results and the buffing brush really improved the results I get with deeply carved pieces.
I bought the brush with the aim of using it to apply Antique Gold to a deeply carved fireplace surround. It did its best but was unable to get into the nooks and crannies.

I am sorry you didn't achieve the success you hoped for. The problem is it looks like you may have used the buffing brush to apply the wax polish. The brush is not designed for this purpose.
The best way we have found to apply the wax is, is with a trimmed paintbrush. This allows you to get right in to all the nooks and crannies, then leave it for twenty to thirty minutes. Now you can buff with the drill brush, followed up with a quick buff by hand with the pure cotton cloth. ✅

I debated whether to buy the brush, as I assumed it would just be useful for polishing turned legs etc, but it worked well on a desk top and gave an excellent finish. Easy to use, excellent quality brush.
